Partners: EPU NTUA (GR), FWT (GR), IEECP (NL), REHVA (BE), SCN (GR), EB (IT), GGGI (HU), ESC (LU), GREENESCO (GR), COMMUTY (ES), LDK (GR), RPR (LV)
Start - End Date: 01/01/2023 - 31/12/2025 Duration: 36 months
Description: The ENERGATE project, co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme, developed an ICT-enabled Energy Efficiency Marketplace to address the fragmentation of the building renovation market and facilitate access to sustainable finance. By standardising project data, enabling aggregation of smaller projects into financeable packages, and supporting AI-driven matchmaking, ENERGATE connects building owners, public authorities, implementors and financiers within a transparent and structured digital environment.
Through data harmonisation, risk assessment tools and performance benchmarking, the platform enhances investment readiness and supports informed decision-making, accelerating energy efficiency investments across Europe.
Approach: ENERGATE operates through a four-stage process:
Zero - User Registration
Stakeholders create structured profiles (Building Owners, Public Bodies, Implementors, Financiers), ensuring transparency and clear role definition.
Fetch - Data Collection
Standardised information on buildings and projects is entered, including technical, financial and risk-related aspects. The platform provides benchmarking, energy and financial indicators, and risk assessment functionalities to improve project bankability.
Process - Aggregation and Matchmaking
Projects are clustered into financeable packages based on predefined criteria (building typology, location, measures, financial parameters). A multi-criteria matchmaking process aligns projects with suitable financiers and financing products.
Deliver - Feedback and Validation
The platform supports Monitoring and Verification (M&V), KPI benchmarking and impact visualisation (energy savings, financial performance and additional benefits), ensuring transparency and continuous improvement.
Since its launch, ENERGATE has engaged more than 100 stakeholders, registered over 250 buildings and facilitated its first successful matches, triggering investments and measurable energy savings.
Pilots: The platform was validated through pilot activities in Greece, Italy, Spain, France and Latvia, with additional cases from Hungary. The pilots represented the full renovation value chain and ensured that the platform was tested under diverse market and regulatory conditions.
Through iterative testing and structured stakeholder feedback, ENERGATE evolved into a market-ready and scalable solution aligned with relevant EU frameworks.
ENERGATE engaged stakeholders through interviews, surveys, EU-level workshops, regional training workshops and international events. This continuous dialogue ensured that the platform responded to real market needs and operational realities.
